RIYADH — The Peevees United Nations Simulation Conference (PUNSC) is an annual conference hosted by Peevees Group of Schools KSA.



Themed “Together for a better tomorrow,” 40 students represented 12 countries — France, Brazil, Italy, Russia, Saudi Arabia,USA, Japan, Britain, Canada, Australia, Belgium and  China — as delegates to discuss and debate on global issues at the fourth Peevees United Nations Simulation Conference — which was an authentic replica of the UN General Assembly.



The participating students were from Al Yasmin International School, Al Alia International School, Modern International School, Daratassalam International School-(DPS) Riyadh, International Indian School Riyadh (IISR) and International Indian Public School Riyadh (IIPSR).



The issues discussed at the conference were: “Conservation of Resources and Climate Change” for the General Assembly and “Woman’s Safety and Children’s Rights” for Security Council.



The delegates prepared the draft resolutions and strategies, negotiated with supporters and adversaries, resolved conflicts, and navigated the UN's rules of procedure — all in the interest of mobilizing international cooperation and to resolve problems that affect almost every country.



Judges Aaron Hiser, senior social science teacher, Multinational School, Riyadh, and MHM.Refai Hasshim, head of the department of social science, Sri Lankan International School,Riyadh provided valuable feedback to the students after which, the winners were declared.



The overall winner’s trophy of the conference went to the host school, Al Yasmin International School, that represented France.



Daratassalam International School- DPS Riyadh represented Belgium was declared the first runner up, and IIPSR represented Saudi Arabia became the second runner up.



Modern International School Riyadh that represented Japan was awarded the fourth position.



The participants and the winners were awarded with certificates and trophies as a token of appreciation.



The program started with the recitation of a few verses from the Holy Qur’an.



The dignitaries and the aspirants were welcomed by K.Rahamathullah, principal of the host school and chapter convener CBSE affiliated schools of KSA.



The chief guest for the conference was Captain William Roe, managing director of Saudi Aviation Flight Academy, Riyadh.



Other special guests on the occasion were Saleem Bava, head of marketing and admissions, Saudi Aviation Flight Academy, Riyadh; P.V Hameed, executive director of Peevees Sons; Dr. Shoukat Parwez, principal and HOI of IISR; Pious John, principal of Al Alia International School;  Mohammed Haneefa, principal of Modern International School; and PV Abdurahman, general manager of MUNA Group of Schools.



Shimi Siby, vice principal of the girls' section proposed the vote of thanks. The entire school was decorated with colorful flags of different countries. The conference formally came to an end with the singing Saudi National anthem followed by the Indian National anthem. — SG
