RIYADH — A Saudi man was sentenced to six years in prison on Tuesday and banned from traveling for a similar period after being convicted of going to Syria to fight with terrorists. The Criminal Court heard the defendant sent WhatsApp messages against the royal family and Islamic scholars in Saudi Arabia. The prosecution claimed the defendant was also urging his recipients to join Syrian armed forces and fight. He also purchased a weapon for terrorists in Syria and supported them financially. The judge said the prosecution and the defendant have 30 days to appeal the sentence. If no appeal is submitted, the case would be forwarded to the Court of Appeals.
