Amal Clooney, barrister and wife of Hollywood actor George Clooney, has made an 11th-hour bid to save the lives of Libya’s Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi and former intelligence chief Abdullah Al-Senussi after a court sentenced them to death, reported Britain’s Daily Mail on Saturday. The son of the former Libyan president, Muammar Gaddafi, and Al-Senussi were tried in a Tripoli court, which last week found them both guilty for crimes against the Libyan people. Clooney reportedly had a leading role in the bid for the intelligence chief to have his case heard by judges from the International Criminal Court, which has no death penalty.  According to the Daily Mail, Saturday night her London chambers called on the UN to halt the executions, which are to be carried out by firing squad. Eight others were also sentenced to death over war crimes that include the killings of protesters during the 2011 revolution that ended Gaddafi’s rule,  including ex-prime minister Baghdadi Al-Mahmoudi. — Al Arabiya News
