JEDDAH — The age old dilemma between the rich and influential and the poor common man receiving justice, judgment and liberty, took centerstage during the war of words for the final round of the junior debate of the 25th Cluster Meet, hosted by International Indian School Jeddah on Sunday.
Exemplary debaters from CBSE schools all over the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia including Al Yara International School, International Indian School Jeddah, International Indian School Riyadh, New Middle East International School Riyadh, Shathi Al Noor International School Jeddah, International Indian School, Jubail, Al Falah International School Jeddah, and International Indian School Dammam participated.
The speakers after qualifying through a keen competition in the zonal competitions represented their respective schools in the final round to voice their viewpoint on the topic “Judiciary is biased towards the Influential”.
The jury consisted of seasoned and experienced group of individuals including Shivkumar Lakshman, Dr. Qari Imran Khan and Dr. Laxman Sockalingam.
The event commenced with a melodious recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an. The Head Boy of the School, Master Muhit Masood welcomed the gathering with a heartwarming address.
The rules being enumerated, the contestants launched off into a zealous argument for and against the motion, showcasing their masterful oratory skills and presenting worthwhile and logical arguments.
The highlight of the event was the fierce and spirited Rebuttal Round where each speaker reinstated their views, countervailing the evidences and rationale proposed by the opponents with immense vigor and fervor. The impassioned debate came to a close, with the speakers mesmerizing the audience with their articulate judgment.
The debate combining the eloquence of speech and firmness of argument were much appreciated by the members of the jury, The exuberant and enriching experience came to a close as IIS-Dammam clinchéd the top position, with Al Falah DPS Jeddah as the first runner up and IIS Jubail as the second runner up.
In the individual category among the team that spoke for the topic, Aanice Tressa Thomas of IIS Dammam bagged the best speaker position followed by Raida Khan of IIS Jeddah and Bhakti A. Kausara of IIS Jubail in the second and third positions respectively.
Among the team that spoke against the topic Syed Zeeshan Abbas Jaffer of Al Falah DPS Jeddah bagged the best speaker position followed by Mohd. Misabhuddin of IIS Jubail and Mohd. Shariq Ibrahim of IIS Dammam in the second and third positions respectively.
The Principal of the host school Syed Masood Ahmed appreciated the participants for their confidence and said, “It gave him immense pleasure and satisfaction, knowing that the future of the country was in safe hands, the hands of such promising young leaders.”
The prizes were given away by Dr. Shoukat Parvez, principal IIS Riyadh, and Dr. E. K. Mohd. Shafee, principal IIS Dammam. The vote of thanks was proposed by the Asst. Head Boy Rizin Ahmed. — SG
