RIYADH — Child Prodigy of Al Yasmin International School, Riyadh, Zain Ahmed Samdani, is the lone representative of Saudi Arabia among the 16 global finalists at the Google Science Fair, held at the Google Headquarters, in Mountain View, California recently.

The Google Science Fair is a global online science and technology competition open to individuals and teams from ages 13 to 18. “Making something better with Science” theme for the Google Science Fair is designed to promote scientific thinking towards innovative projects to help community serve better.

General Judging Criteria at the competition are Inspirational entry or idea; Capacity to make an impact; Passion for science and engineering; Excellence of method; Communication Skills along with Special Jury for Community Impact award and The Inspiring Educator award.

The award of a whopping prize money scholarship of $50,000 will be announced at a gala function at the end of September.

Zain submitted the project titled, ExoHeal — utilizing neuroplasticity to provide rehabilitation to stroke patients and cure hand paralysis. The aim of his project is to design and develop a precise, compact, lightweight and a portable solution, with independent motion on each phalange in order to potentially cure hand paralysis and provide rehabilitation to stroke patients and those with muscular degenerative diseases.

Zain was among the finalist in Sony Creative Science Award Program in 2012. He won the Best International Performing Award in India’s biggest Robotics Championship along with the second prize awarded at the CBSE Cluster Meet Science Projects for the Saudi Arabia Chapter.

The management, principal, staff and students of Al Yasmin International School wish him all success at the Google Science Fair 2016 and believe that his innovative ideas would bring significant difference to the lives of needy in the community. — SG
