Chief Guest Hussein Bin Ezan Al Magbool, Asst. Director, Foreign Schools and International Programs, Ministry of Education, KSA, stressed the need of involving sports and games for a better and healthy life as the curtain was rung down on the Annual Sports Meet 2016-17 of the Al Khozama International School.

He said that Al Khozama is one of the shining stars among the international schools in the Eastern Province. Whether it is academic or co-curricular, Khozama proves its worth, he added. He applauded Khozama for its past achievements and urged the students to keep the legacy of this great institution. He thanked the management, teachers and the parents of Al Khozama for making it a success, and distributed the prizes and certificates to the winners of various events.

The event was attended by Awad Al Esa, the Mudeer, Ms. Sreedevi Menon, assistant director programs, Gopinath Menon, principal, Razi Shaikh Pareeth, Niyas Chirakkara, Fahad Al Asmary and Ms. Leena Gogy.

The chief guest was given a warm welcome by the school Cabinet and the heads of Khozama school. The program commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an by Hammad Hasan and its translation by Ammar Khan Sherwani. School Head Boy Kevin Thomas delivered the welcome address. March past headed by the four houses — Sapphire, Topaz, Amber and Ruby — was a treat to watch. The mass drill that followed was a superb manifestation of skill and flexibility and these tiny tots literally stole the show with their amazing performance.

Ruby House won the overall championship. Fayiz Ahmed and Shine Surendran, the captain and vice-captain of Ruby House, received the overall trophy from the chief guest. Second prize was won by Sapphire House while the third position was bagged by Topaz House. Aaron Lenin, Joel Mahtew George, Ziyad Musthafa, Muhammad Arshan, Zaheer Bunglowala and Aman Bunglowala got individual championship in different categories.

In the Girls Wing, Chief Guest Ms. Lamia Bander Al-Saer, Mudeera of Dunes International School, received the salute from the march past teams. Head Girl, Ms. Sharon Shaju and Vice Head Girl, Karen Saira led the march. This was followed by the school band team, headed by Diya Amna. The chief guest appreciated each and every one who took effort and initiative to make the program a grand one. She added that it was amazing to watch the students performing beautifully.

Ms. Sreedevi Menon remarked that sports is all about energy. The students welcomed her statement about Sakshi Malik, Olympic medalist, with thunderous applause. Amber House emerged as the champions and Sapphire House bagged the second prize while Topaz secured the third place.

Mohd. Nuhu, sports captain, proposed the vote of thanks. Principal Gopinath Menon officially declared the sports meet 2016-17 closed amid thunderous applause. The enticing show ended with the singing of the Saudi and Indian national anthems by the school choir.
