DAMMAM — Dr. Shaun Sabico, chief editor of Prince Miteb Chair for Biomarkers of Osteoporosis (PMCO) in King Saud University (KSU), was recently awarded the prestigious 2017 ESCEO-IOF Young Investigator Award in the recently concluded World Congress on Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (WCO) held in Florence, Italy.

The winning study was selected from among 1,436 abstracts submitted, the largest ever recorded in the history of the congress, which is also the biggest clinical and research gathering in the field.

Sabico was also one of the 2016 Eli Lilly Scholarship award recipients given in Malaga, Spain. He is a 4th year PhD candidate in Biomedical Sciences in Warwick University, UK, and is under the guidance and supervision of Professor Nasser Al-Daghri, director of PMCO and dean of the College of Science in KSU.

Al-Daghri, on the other hand, presented one of the 5 PMCO studies accepted in the conference in the famous segment of the WCO-IOF-ESCEO known as “the podium” for selected researchers. PMCO was officially selected to host the 2018 IOF Young Investigator Course to be held in March 2018 and to be attended by world renowned scientists in the field of osteoporosis: Jean-Yves Reginster, Rene Rizzoli and Olivier Bruyere.

The WCO-IOF-ESCEO is an annual global event in Europe attended by thousands of scientists and physicians in the fields of osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and musculoskeletal diseases. IOF also conducts regional conferences in the Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific. — SG
