HAVING lots of free time is one of the biggest crises suffered by the youth. It is an open door to all evil. When the issue of youth is raised, the first question that comes to mind: what do these young people want? A very important question, and the answer will inevitably be incomplete and useless if the respondent is not young. Therefore, I noticed the initiative put forward by Prince Saud Bin Naif, emir of the Eastern Province, which included the need to pay attention to the youth and the allocation of activities for them.
This initiative, which was adopted by the Eastern Province Municipality, is considered one of the best to have been launched in the Kingdom, especially as it combines government and private sectors, bodies and social work associations, and includes more than 50 youth activities. Most importantly, the working group that was formed to implement this initiative was young.
Prof. Muhammad Al-Sofian, spokesman for the Eastern Province Municipality, said: «The team has set up an electronic survey with the participation of three Saudi universities, which includes many important topics for youth. It was published on smart phones. Youth events will be held and direct interviews will be held with them to listen to their suggestions and ideas.»
It is clear that the steps taken by the working group to implement this initiative are proceeding to the fullest according to professional standards of work. The doctor cannot describe the treatment before asking the patient about his problem and what he is suffering from.
The problems of young people are many and complex, and the farther away the concerned parties are, the greater the gap between them and their community. I wish all the young people and the supervising and implementing committee of the survey to be honest with themselves and with each other, and to convey the requests of the young people and their wishes to the emir of the region without hesitation or amendment. His highness wants to know the truth.
