MAKKAH — The Jeddah General Court is looking into a complaint filed by businessman Turki Hassan Al-Arishi and his brother against a young man who allegedly rented a gas station and property from them but has not paid the rent.

In the complaint, the brothers said the tenant did not pay them the rent of SR1.5 million after signing the contract, as was agreed.

He was also accused of renting the rooms on site to some illegal workers who used the place to carry out unlawful activities.

When the businessman and his brother tried to reach a settlement with the young man, the latter published defamatory claims about them in the press, it was alleged.

At this point, Al-Arishi decided to file a lawsuit against the man.

Al-Arishi said he rented out the gas station and other property on site to the young man last year.

After signing the contract, the young man is believed to have told the brothers that he had forgotten the rent check at his home in Makkah.

Al-Arishi said: “That’s when problems started.

“He has kept delaying from one day to another.

“He has not complied with the contract’s conditions.

“He even mixed the two grades of gasoline and sold it to customers in order to make more money.”

When the municipality started tackling all violations at the gas station, the man asked them to stop and prevented them from doing so.

He then complained against Al-Arishi and his brother, claiming that the violations were in the place before he rented the property and he was not responsible.

Al-Arishi said: “He even claimed the rent period of the contract was 10 years, which is not true, and somehow he managed to get licenses for some stores on the property although he didn’t have an original copy of the lease contract.

“We didn’t give him the contract because he did not pay the rent.”
