MUMBAI - Bollywood diva Anushka Sharma has always made sure her opinion is very well heard and absorbed. She recently made headlines for voicing her opinion about the prevalent sexism in Bollywood.
“Girls are just expected to be good-looking. Look nice and just be interesting enough for a guy to be interested in you in a film. Women doing films together - they only come together in a film when there’s a guy involved,” she was quoted as saying.
“Men can work as long as they want to even when they’ve aged. They’re still amazing and cool. And I have no problem with that. But why is that women are only okay when they’re “young and desirable”? There’s a sexual connotation attached,” she added.
“This is such a deep rooted thing, so many years we have not really expected much from our female actors. So it will take time for us to get there. We are all pioneer of this change. May be we won’t be able to see the real benefits of this change completely but at least we are doing something that will help the process.” - Agencies
