KFH doctors removed 100 stones from a patient

JEDDAH — About 100 stones of different sizes and weight were removed from the gallbladder of a 70-year-old patient at King Fahd Hospital here.

Dr. Ayman Sualimani, consultant urologist, said on Tuesday that the patient had been complaining of urinary problems.

He said the patient underwent an ultrasound and other tests, which revealed a pile of large number of stones in his gallbladder.

“The doctors team of Wassem Kamal, Mohammed Abu Zanada and Amr Siraj performed surgery in which 100 stones of different sizes was removed. One of the stones was of one centimeter size the largest and weighed of 135 grams.

“All the stones were removed from his gallbladder during the operation, which was a success and without complications,” he added.

The obesity and consumption of fatty food, high cholesterol, diabetes and hypertension are prime reasons for the formation of stones in the gallbladder according to medical experts.
