Al-Maliki named spokesperson of Arab Coalition, replacing Asiri

RIYADH – The Command of the Arab Coalition Forces supporting legitimacy in Yemen announced on Thursday appointing Col. Turki Al-Maliki as its new spokesperson, replacing Maj. Gen. Ahmed Asiri.

Asiri, who took over the mission since the start of military operations in Yemen, was the spokesperson for Operation Decisive Storm and Operation Restoring Hope, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The Coalition Command said in a statement that Col. Turki has begun to discharge his duties. It also confirmed its intention to continue communicating transparently and to provide necessary information on the military operations aimed at supporting legitimacy in Yemen

Al-Maliki will hold press conferences whenever necessary, and will be available to communicate with all local, regional and international media.

Born in Taif in 1974, Al-Maliki is the holder of a series of academic qualifications, including a bachelor degree in meteorology from King Faisal Air Academy in 1997 with an excellent grade in addition to a Master’s degree in military science from the College of Command and Staff in 2015. He was an aviation instructor at the US Naval School of Naval Base, Pensacola, Florida.

He completed his training on board several aircraft (T-34, T-39, T-2) in mid-2000. He also worked on F-15S aircraft at King Abdulaziz Air Base in Dhahran and King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushayt. Al-Maliki then moved to work under the Air Force’s Command and held several positions at its department of planning and operations.
