MAKKAH — The National Water Company (NWC) has sacked two senior managers and an employee in the Western Region after it was proved that they were involved in corrupt practices.

Informed sources also revealed to Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the water company had suspended 12 senior managers and an employee in its branches in Makkah, Jeddah, Riyadh and Taif over the past few months, and referred them to investigation authorities for carrying out illegal deals. The company terminated their contracts after investigations proved the charges against them.

The company on Saturday informed all its employees by email that it had fired one of the leading managers and ended all contractual relations with him.

Investigation committees had initiated anti-corruption probes against senior staff after many of the company's projects had faltered. The previous management did not take any punitive measures against the contractors of these stalled projects.

Moreover, the contracts signed did not take into consideration the negative effects on public health and the environment in general. Apart from these, there were personal interests in some of the administrations awarding contracts worth millions of riyals to contractors who carried out projects that later turned out to be fraught with shortcomings. These projects did not fulfill the aspired goals, aside from violating the regulations of the company.

Sources in the company said earlier the NWC issued several decisions, most important among them relieving the CEO of NWC from his post as well as a big number of executives in the company, like the heads for human resources, finance, and capital projects

The sources added that a manager was relieved from his post three months ago after he approved the resignation of one of the senior employees facing corruption charges. Furthermore, the manager released this employee's financial entitlements in clear violation of the company's regulations.

The investigation committees had summonsed the top executive who had resigned, but he evaded the investigation committee and switched off his mobile phone.

The sources said the NWC appointed replacements for all sacked executives in order to prevent any disruption in the company's work.
