RIYADH — The Ministry of Labor and Social Development reported 1,392 housemaids were deported back to their home country last month, Al-Hayat reported.

Ministry of Labor and Social Development spokesman Khalid Abalkhail said the ministry has rules and regulations in place to protect the rights of expatriates and sponsors.

“There are justice and reconciliation committees in various areas of the Kingdom where expatriates and sponsors can file complaints against each other. The committees are responsible for settling the disputes by protecting both of their rights. The deportation process of housemaids is being facilitated once they have gone through all of the systemic processes,” said Abalkhail.

He added the hospitality homes host housemaids who do not wish to be with their sponsor, go to their embassies or face the police.

“They stay at the home until their travel arrangements and process is completed. The ministry protects the rights of housemaids and ensures their safety. The ministry will also launch an employee evaluation and performance productivity scale for all of its employees. All employees will be obliged to register at the ministry’s website,” said Abalkhail.

He added the service will improve the efficiency of the workflow and will help the ministry achieve its goals for the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

“The service is offered in cooperation with the Ministry of Civil Service. The Ministry of Labor has also provided video tutorial on how to use the new service,” said Abalkhail.
