MANILA — The Star Hotshots showed no sign of rust despite a 19-day layoff, blasting the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 100-81, in the PBA Governors’ Cup Wednesday night.

With their fourth straight win, the Hotshots thus remained as the only unbeaten team in the conference. The win also stamped Star’s mastery of Phoenix, which the Hotshots had defeated fourth straight times this season.

Malcolm Hill, the youngest PBA import at 21 years old, once again delivered the goods for Star, finishing with 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Paul Lee led the Star locals with 18 points, including four three-pointers, the last of which he fired from way beyond the arc with 1:29 left, giving Star a 20-point bubble, 100-80.

Aldrech Ramos added 13 markers and 8 boards. Ian Sangalang, Mark Barroca and Allein Maliksi chipped in 11 points apiece.

Phoenix suffered its fifth straight loss after winning its first two games. The Fuel Masters were led by their import Brandon Brown who finished with 33 points and 23 rebounds. Jeff Chan added 14 markers.

Blackwater 111, Alaska 106 (2OTs)

The Blackwater Elite extended Alaska’s franchise-worst losing streak, beating the Aces, 111-106, in double overtime.

Bill Walker exploded for 35 points, including 5 three-pointers, along with a whopping 32 rebounds, to lead the Elite to a franchise-record third straight win as Blackwater improved to a 3-3 mark. The hard-working import also had three steals, two assists, and one block in 58 minutes.

The Aces suffered yet another heartbreaking defeat, their fifth straight this conference and 13th overall going back to the last Commissioner’s Cup.

Mike DiGregorio led Blackwater’s locals with 17 points, including a three-pointer that allowed the Elite to grab back the lead for good, 107-106, with 1:03 left in the second overtime.

Bambam Gamalinda also played solidly for Blackwater finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Poy Erram added 13 markers and 13 boards.

Buck Henton led Alaska with 31 points and 10 boards. JVee Casio added 25 points, including a three-pointer that gave the Aces a 106-104 lead with 1:17 left. Blackwater, however, quickly regained the lead with a DiGregorio three-pointer en route to victory.

Gilas Pilipinas beats Malaysia

Gilas Pilipinas demolished host Malaysia, 98-66, to complete a sweep of their preliminary matches of the 2017 Southeast Asian Games basketball competition at MABA Stadium in Kuala Lumpur Wednesday night.

Fil-German Christian Standhardinger powered Gilas with 18 points and 18 rebounds as the defending champions topped Group A with 3-0 (win-loss) record. Gilas Pilipinas will now face the second placer of Group B, which could be either Vietnam or Singapore, in the semifinals Friday.

The Filipinos started cold, allowing the Malaysians to take a 20-15 lead in the first quarter. But the Gilas cadets finally got going in the second period after a 17-4 run to take a 40-27 lead.

A scuffle erupted between the two teams in the third quarter, leading to the ejection of Gilas guard Baser Amer and forward Carl Bryan Cruz.

The Filipinos responded to the controversial calls by the referees by unleashing a 16-4 run to end the third quarter with a huge 73-46 lead to the delight of hundreds of Filipino migrants who watched the game.

Kobe Paras continued his dazzling acts, finishing with 16 points and eight rebounds and a highlight-reel slam. Kiefer Ravena and Troy Rosario added 12 points apiece while Amer chipped in 10 markers.

PBA games Friday: Phoenix Fuel Masters (2-4) vs. TNT KaTropa Texters (2-2) and San Miguel Beermen (2-1) vs. GlobalPort Batang Pier (2-2).
