RIYADH — The Ministry of Education has started training 46 women physical instructors as physical education supervisors.

Education Minister Ahmed Al-Issa announced in July that his ministry will introduce physical education in girls’ schools all over the Kingdom this academic year as out of class activity until all arrangements are made for the introduction of this subject as part of school syllabus.

Ministry’s undersecretary for girls’ education Haya Bint Abdulaziz said that every department of girls’ education in the Kingdom will make plans for the training of women teachers as physical education supervisors.

She explained that the program will be applied in two phases: First out of class activity then as part of daily classes.

In the second phase, a special subject on physical education will be introduced in all girls’ schools in the Kingdom.

“After training of female supervisors, physical education for girls will be introduced as part of syllabus in all girls’ schools in the Kingdom,” she said.

The ministry had earlier announced 160 vacancies for female physical education supervisors.

Undersecretary of the ministry Mubarak Al-Ossaimi said appointments will be made in a number of the departments of education.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Civil Service suspended 120 jobs for women teachers of physical education in girls’ schools because candidates have yet to fulfill the terms and conditions of the jobs.

The application process for the physical education instructor job was suspended on Monday.

The ministry did not accept any applicants because none of them sat for competence test which is an important prerequisite for the job.

Informed sources expect the appointments to take place during the academic year 2020.
