60% population lives in Makkah, Madinah and Riyadh regions

Makkah — About 60 percent of the Kingdom’s population lives in Makkah, Madinah and Riyadh regions, according to a preliminary data issued by the General Authority for Statistics (GAS).

These three regions have an estimated 32.6 million people, the GAS data showed. This is an increase of 870,000 compared to the end of 2016.

The combined area of these three regions, which is estimated to be 2,150,000 square kilometers, has about 20 percent of the Kingdom’s total land area.

The data showed that 15 percent of the Kingdom’s population lives in the Eastern Province and the rest of the population is distributed in other parts of the Kingdom.

The study was conducted by member of the Municipal Council and member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Makkah region Eng. Ahmed Bin Abdulaziz Sindi.

It says that the Kingdom in the era of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense, is witnessing industrial and technological progress.

These include the Red Sea islands, alternative energy projects and industrial zones, Al-Qidyah project, south of Riyadh, Al-Faisaliyah smart city project etc.
