Housewives should not be called unemployed

Abdulrahman Al-Farhan

HOUSEWIVES are an important segment of society and in dire need of the care and attention of all government agencies. Housewives are great women who have chosen to stay at home and take care of children. They have sacrificed their dreams for the sake of their children and husbands. They do it free of charge and do not expect any financial compensation in return. Besides, they work all day long, take care of children and fulfill other household chores. How could someone call them unemployed or idle?

Housewives are the stars of our lives. They are the walls upon which husbands lean when tired. They are the hopes in our lives. Anyone who does not recognize their role and insists on describing them as unemployed is ignorant. It is true that some of these housewives do not have college degrees in medicine, nursing, teaching, engineering, etc. The truth remains that they perform all these roles at home. They are doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers and more.

They give warmth and security to children and husbands all the time. They go to great lengths to make their children and husbands feel comfortable even if it is at the expense of their lives. They hurt so others feel good. They sacrifice everything for their families.

All members of society should demand that housewives be paid a monthly salary for the great roles that they play and the great services they provide. Without them, a home would be unstable and life would be bitter. It is a shame, after all, to call them unemployed. It is high time they are paid monthly salaries.
