JEDDAH — Marriage of the Saudi scholarship students in the countries where they study with the intention of divorcing the wives afterwards is wrong and is a flagrant kind of cheating, Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Abdullah Al-Ashaikh has said.

"Temporary marriage with the intention of divorcing later is totally un-Islamic," he said warning the scholarship students from falling into this trap.

He said the marriage is not usually limited to a certain time as it is a contract for life but if it is decided by days, months or years, it will be un-Islamic by all means.

"This will be a Mutaa pleasure marriage) which is haram. The scholars are unanimous on this," he explained.

The mufti said if a man marries a woman and has it in his heart that he will desert her later his marriage will be against Islam.

"This is not only un-Islamic but is wrong and is total cheating which is prohibited by Islam," he added.

The mufti asked those who think of this kind of marriage to ask themselves if they would accept this kind of matrimony for their daughters and sisters.

"Will any man accept to marry his daughter or sister to a man whom he knows will divorce later," he questioned.
