Glowork exhibition in Riyadh sharpens careers for women

RIYADH — Glowork company is holding its fifth annual event on job creation for women under the patronage of Prince Reema bint Bandar Al Saud who is the Vice President of the General Sports Authority. The three-day event at AlFaisaliah Hotel in Riyadh will end on Sept. 29.

Khalid AlKhudair, Founder and CEO of Glowork, said that event is a bridge between female job seekers and labor market. "We have more than 86 organizations participating. The event is divided into three parts: conference which we bring top students from all universities across Kingdom to listen to international speakers from different industries about opportunities after graduation, public career fair where we expect near 30,000 women to attend, 50 workshops done by a number of companies," he said

Throughout the previous years, the number of organizations participating have increased "At the same time more diverse industries are opening. Last year there were over 3,600 women get hired through this event. This year, we have HRH Princess Reema supporting us, we are very optimistic about the number of jobs can be created in the sports and fitness sector in the Kingdom," he stressed.

Abdullah Al-Harbi, Senior Director of Job Creation Commission, said the reason behind their participation is to work on the eco system of all job creation, ensuring better understanding of the futuristic jobs available in the market. "We cooperate with the authorities in concern such as the Ministry of Education to influence the skills needed for every job. We also have strong cooperation with private and non-profit organizations," he said.

"Our focus is on creating the best job for the right person," he explained. Speaking of the global issue of unemployment and the possible ways to reduce it, Abdullah said "it is an undeniable fact that the world is facing big challenges regarding unemployment and that is one of the reasons why we are here. We want to cope with this challenge through cooperation with public, private sectors and nonprofit organizations and we need to ensure that all the efforts are consolidated to contribute to Kingdom's vision. We are not going to solve such an issue overnight, it is a full process. However, we already started and took necessary steps to create jobs in the market."

Omar Khaldi is an HR Business Partner at Landmark Arabia said that they have more than 15,000 employees in all their retail stores. "Our aim from the participation in this event is to increase the percentage of our female employees from 25%-40% which means hiring near 6000 female employees. We are here to look for the best candidates with excellent skills, passionate and willing to grow with us because we have a clear career scale. You can start from the sales department going up to be an area manager. We have lots of success stories," he emphasized.

He noted that they made their decision of increasing their female employees after a study they have conducted on the productivity level between male and female employees. "We found that women are 20% more productive than the male," he concluded.
