IISJ lifts championship at cluster meet in Dammam

— The International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) lifted the championship trophy at the recently concluded 27th Cluster Meet of the CBSE affiliated schools, Saudi Chapter at IIS Dammam.

More than 500 boys and girls from 15 Indian schools who were the group champions from Eastern, Western and Central Regions of the Kingdom, participated in the five-day event. The meet witnessed tough and exciting competitions in basketball, volleyball, football and table tennis in different age groups.

In closely-contested group events, IIS Jeddah boys won the championships in football, volleyball and basketball. IIS Dammam won the title in girls basketball and runners-up in boys basketball and third place in volleyball. IIS Jubail bagged the runners up place in football and volleyball. IIS Riyadh was the runner up in girls basketball and second runners up football. IIS Jeddah was the second runner up in girls basketball and Delhi Public School, Riyadh was the second runner up in boys basketball.

In Table Tennis Team Championships – New Middle East Indian School, Riyadh won the title in boys under 14 group. Modern Middle East Indian School, Riyadh was the first runner up and IIS Jeddah the second runner up. Boys under 17 group title was lifted by IIS Riyadh, while IIS Jeddah came a close second and New Middle East School, Riyadh third. IIS Dammam attained the championship title in boys under 19 group. IIS Jubail was the first runner up and IIS Jeddah, the second runner up.

Table Tennis Individual Winners – Amruth Chandra, New Middle East School, Riaydh was the champion in under 14 boys group, Mohammed Zaid Ahmed of IIS Jeddah, first runner up and Abdul Hasib, IIS Jubail second runner up. Boys under 17 group – Amaan ur Rahman, IIS Riyadh won the championship title, Farhan Syed Masood – IIS Jeddah, first runner up and Siddrath Rajesh from New Middle East, Riyadh, second runner up. Under 19 boys group title was won by Nevan Jayan of IIS Dammam, Muaz Hyder Quraishi, IIS Jeddah took the first runner up position and Ahlaad Yalavarthi, IIS Riyadh the second runner up spot.

Later at the colorful valedictory ceremony at Prof Rasheeduzzafar Indoor Hall in the Girls Campus. Dr. Suhail Ajaz Khan, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India, Riyadh was the chief guest. Dr. Hifzur Rahman, first secretary and observer of Indian schools in the Kingdom, was the guest of honor. The school managing committee members, parents and the school faculty attended the ceremony.

Dr. Suhail Ajaz Khan and Dr. Hifz Ur Rahman distributed the prizes to the winners. In his address, Dr. Khan urged the schools to give more importance to sports activities as it will help students attain important life skills. Dr. Zainul Abiddin, chairman of the School Managing Committee, in his felicitation address pledged full support of the managing committee to promote the sports programs and improve the sports facilities.

IIS Dammam Principal and Head of the institution Dr. E K Mohammed Shaffe welcomed the guests and congratulated students and schools staff members. Ms. Dhanalaxmi Ramanujam, proposed vote of thanks and Dr. Mohammed Irfan Waheed, headmaster, boys senior section presented the report of the Cluster Meet. Ms. Geeta Bupati presented the event.
