JEDDAH — The traffic department is currently investigating an accident involving a Saudi woman in her 50s who was driving a Lexus sedan early Monday.

The woman ran into a truck on Hada Al-Sham Road between Jeddah and Makkah seriously injuring herself and killing a male relative, a 13-year-old Jordanian national.

Informed sources said the Pakistani truck driver has been detained pending investigations.

Two units from the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, the traffic police and the Civil Defense rushed to the scene of the accident. They pulled out the woman driver and took the victims to hospitals.

The woman was taken to a private hospital in central Jeddah and the dead body of the young Jordanian was taken to the morgue of King Fahd Hospital.

The sources said the accident would be treated as a normal traffic case involving a woman driver who had no driving license and therefore was not allowed to drive.

They said the woman faces a fine of between SR500 and SR900 for driving without a license.

According to the sources, the Lexus was owned by a Saudi man, who was not immediately identified.

The sources did not identify the woman but said she had 27 various cars registered in her name.
