Reema first woman to head sports federation

Riyadh — Princess Reema Bint Bandar Bin Sultan has been named to head a Saudi multi-sports federation.

She has been appointed President of the Saudi Federation for Community Sports in extensive changes in the Olympic Committee and sports federations announced by Chairman of the General Authority for Sport and Chairman of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee Turki Bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Asheikh on Friday.

Some 13 heads of various sports federations in the Kingdom were appointed and a total of 12 heads of sports federations were relieved of their posts.

Princess Reema has become the first woman to lead a federation covering sporting activities for men and women.

The following are the new presidents of various sports federations: Prince Abdullah Bin Saud Bin Muhammad Al-Saud (Saudi Maritime Sports Federation), Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Bin Abdullah Al-Faisal (Saudi Federation of Automobiles and Motorcycles), Princess Reema Bint Bandar Bin Sultan (Saudi Federation for Community Sports), Yasser Othman Al-Rumayan (Saudi Golf Federation), Maj. Gen. Muhammad Bin Hussein Al-Sharif (Saudi Judo Federation), Ibrahim Bin Abdul Wahhab Al-Babtain (Saudi Volleyball Federation), Muhammad Bin Nasser Al-Ajaji (Saudi Tennis Federation), Major Khaled bin Abdullah Al-Otaibi (Shooting Federation), Muhammad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Manea (Saudi Handball Federation), Badr Bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh (Saudi Bowling Federation), Ahmad Bin Mohammed Al-Sabban (Saudi Fencing Federation), Abdulrahman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Massaad (Saudi Basketball Federation), and Abdul-Ella Bin Ahmed Abu Al-Rish (Saudi Gymnastics Federation).

Al-Asheikh also issued orders to set up a number of new sports federations. These include establishment of the Saudi Federation for Mental and Electronic Sports under the chairmanship of Prince Faisal Bin Bandar Bin Sultan, and Suhaib Mohammed Ali Quds as his deputy.

The new Saudi Air Balloon Federation will be headed by Mohieddin Saleh Kamel.

Saudi Chess Federation was established which will be headed by Moataz Bin Abdulrahman Al-Sulaiman.

Saudi Federation of Wireless Sports and Remote Control was established with Col. Fahad al-Zakri as its president besides setting up of Saudi Union for Electronic Security and Software.
