JEDDAH — The Ministry of Commerce and Investment has asked all gas station owners to recalibrate their fuel pumps in order to increase transparency in the services rendered to consumers.

There are more than 10,000 gas stations in the Kingdom, including new pumps and the ones with expired permits.

The ministry asked the owners to increase their supervisory and monitoring role in fuel station operations, according to Al-Madina newspaper.

The ministry warned the owners against mixing fuel grades and other commercial fraud.

The ministry pointed out that it had received many requests for inspection from gas station owners, but did not give a specific number.

In response to questions from Al-Madina, the ministry revealed the steps required to complete the electronic inspection of fuel pumps.

"The owner of a new station or a station that has an expired license must go to the inspection and calibration website of the fuel stations (fis.mci.gov.sa) and submit a request for a test. The relevant employee shall refer the request to the competent laboratories," the ministry said.

The quality of the fuel and the calibration of fuel pumps shall be checked at the station. The results of the examination shall be submitted on the website. In the case of a pass, a certificate is issued with the test results and each pump receives a sticker, indicating the successful inspection. This certificate is valid for six months only.

Quality control teams in the ministry monitor the compliance of fuel stations periodically, in addition to receiving complaints and reports from consumers through the ministry's toll free number 1900, the commercial notification app on smart devices or its official website.

If a gas station fails to pass the test due to faulty pump calibration or fuel quality, the owner must correct the violation and resubmit the test request.
