KSU holds conference on alliance against terrorism

International experts discuss command, communication and cyber security

— The Kingdom is looking for a talented and proficient team to tackle growing challenges in the cyber security domain, said Dr. Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, an expert and chairman of the organizing committee of international conference on C41 solutions.

Speaking to Saudi Gazette, Dr. Al-Ghamdi said the recently concluded conference has recommended establishment of a national center for leadership and building its sustainable capacities in command and control centers in combating terrorism with advanced integration system for complex operations and command, control, communications, cyber security (C41) with supporting knowledge and technology transfer with local expertise.

The Kingdom is playing an active role against terrorism at regional and international levels and the conference is part of its efforts to combat the global phenomenon.

Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, sponsored the 2nd international conference on C4I solutions held in Riyadh at King Saud University with collaboration of ministry of defense. Several important global players including from NATO and European countries took part in the deliberations at the conference.

Dr. Al-Ghamdi said digital transformation is the core strategy of Saudi Vision 2030, with all stake holders in Kingdom increasingly adapting to be part of the vision program.

The conference focused on transferring technology knowledge and localization of specialized expertise in command and control systems as one of its main themes, in line with the Saudi 2030 Vision,” Dr. Al-Ghamdi said.

He said conference aimed at keeping abreast with rapid developments in this field. The defense ministry, he said, has dedicated its efforts through its fruitful cooperation with King Saud University.

Dr. Al-Ghamdi said that the organizing committee held two important events in the direction of searching talent and innovative capabilities among Saudi youth by conducting two challenging competitions — Hakathon Arabia and Cyber Arabia — where more than 300 participants competed.

The conference has formally decided to instill the spirit of innovation among young Saudis in the field of command and control system, he added.

He said that Kingdom wants them to explore their innovative skills at international level including Ted and Karyn Hume Center for National Security and Technology in the US.

Dr. Al-Ghamdi said that social technical system to deal with social media platforms is new technology which was discussed by more than 30 international experts.

The conference discussed important and vital subjects such as “social cultural terrorism and command, control system”, “The changing scene of cyber abuses and the crisis management plan”, among other vital digital subjects.

The 3-day conference was addressed by Abdullah Amer Al-Swaha, minister of communications and information technology, Gen. Abdul Rahman Bin Saleh Al-Bunyan, chief of general staff of Saudi Armed Forces, and Badran Abdulrahman Al-Omar, director of King Saud University.

Northrop Grumman Corporation was the strategic partner and Saudi Aramco also participated in the conference.
