JEDDAH – The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) organized a visit to South Korea for a number of young Saudi businessmen, with the participation of a number of Saudi government agencies such as the investment authority, the entertainment authority and the Small and Medium Enterprises Authority. The delegation visited a number of government centers and Korean facilities that support the commercial sector. The visit included The Ministry of Emerging Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and some business incubator sectors. This was done for the purpose of knowing and making use of the Korean experience in supporting these facilities that employ 89% of the population.

Bandar Arab, the Director of Economic and Social Development at JCCI, said in a statement “this important visit aims to exchange experiences in the field of supporting and developing small and emerging enterprises, enforce trade exchange, open new fields for investment and start new trades. This is what we sensed from some young businessmen participating in the delegation who showed interest in transferring some experiences or took some inspiring ideas from these visits that will help them start new projects.”

The young businessman Khaled Sharbatly, general manager of Icons Shared Energy Company, emphasized on the necessity of benefitting from the South Korean experiences in the smart cities sector, where it achieved massive successes in this field and built Incheon city from scratch and many housing projects that are huge and fully equipped with the latest sustainable security technologies.

Sharbatly noted that the visit comes within the framework of Saudi Arabia's approach to renewable energy and smart cities in light of the ambitious aspirations of Vision 2030 to turn the Kingdom into a leading global model in various aspects of life. It also comes within the directives of Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Board of the Public Investment Fund, and his announced launch of the project "Neom" – the future destination, the world's first project that will depend entirely on alternative and renewable energy. — SG
