Keen competition seen in PISJ-ES spelling Bee event

JEDDAH — Pakistan International School English Section (PISJ-ES) recently organized a Spelling Bee competition, replicating the international standards of such contests in the school auditorium. The best spellers from grade level 1 to 8 participated in the competition and enthralled the audience with their performance in the nerve-wracking competition.

The sole purpose of this contest was to learn the skill to communicate effectively because it’s not just about rote learning words but to know the words inside-out in context of their appropriate usage.

The program formally commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by the national anthem of Pakistan.

On the occasion, Principal Adnan Nasir said, “Such competitions are exclusive, not because they provide a platform to the best spellers but because they give exposure to our students to explore the new avenues of the ‘world of words’ in their academic and future professional lives. Therefore, the objective of such competitions is not just to expect our students to spell the words correctly and win the competition but to help them learn discipline; how to tackle pressure and take decisions to confidently pace the competitive world in all their future endeavors. By learning words, they develop their skill to communicate effectively which is required in every aspect of life.”

He urged the students to understand the power of words, which has the ability to inspire and shatter at the same time; thus, emphasized to learn to use them wisely in order to make our world a better place.

After several stirring and intellectually challenging rounds, Ahmed Waseem, Yasir Ahmed and Fatima Masood from Grade 1 acquired first, second and third positions respectively.

Among the winners in Grade 2 was Rawdah Khalid in first position, runner up was Abdullah Khan while third position was acquired by Ahmed Akhtar. Huda Waqas, Ibrahim Ahmed and Rubab Tahir from Grade 3 achieved first, second and third positions respectively.

In Grade 4, first position was won by Muhammad Arsalan, runner up was Shaher Bano and Fatima Ibrahim stood in third place.

The spelling champs from Grade 5 were, Muhammad Khalid Iqbal, Manal Fatima and Maryam Farrukh, achieving first, second and third positions respectively. From Grade 6, Rayan Saqib, Abdullah Waseem and Abdul Aleem were declared winners with first, second and third positions respectively. The victors from Grade 7 were Muhammad Rafey in first position, Momina Adnan came second and Muhammad Hunain stood third. In Grade 8, Syed Qaisar Khurram stood first, Maria Zahid took second and Dua Tahir achieved third position.

The principal lauded the teaching faculty and the members of the school administration for staging such intellectually stimulating program so meticulously.

The program concluded with the distribution of trophies and certificates to the winners of the program and group photo.
