Riyadh — Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir on Monday warned Tehran the Kingdom would not tolerate “any infringement” on its national security, following a weekend missile attack on Riyadh by Iran-backed rebels in Yemen.

“Iranian interventions in the region are detrimental to the security of neighboring countries and affect international peace and security. We will not allow any infringement on our national security,” Jubeir tweeted.

Jubeir said his country reserved the right to respond to Iran’s “hostile actions”.

Earlier on Monday, the Command of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen said it will temporarily close all air, land and seaports to Yemen to stem the flow of arms to Houthi rebels from Iran.

“The Coalition Forces Command decided to temporarily close all Yemeni air, sea and land ports,” a statement on Saudi Press Agency said, adding that aid workers and humanitarian supplies would continue to be able to access and exit Yemen.

The move follows the interception of a missile fired toward Riyadh on Saturday which the Coalition described as a “dangerous escalation” by the Iran-allied Houthi militia.

The Coalition and US President Donald Trump have both blamed Iran for the attack.

The ballistic missile was intercepted by Saudi Arabia’s air defenses and brought down near Riyadh airport without causing any casualties. “The Command of the Coalition forces, therefore, considers this... a blatant military aggression by the Iranian regime which may amount to an act of war,” it said in the statement.

The statement said that the borders were being closed “to fill the gaps in the inspection procedures which enable the continued smuggling of missiles and military equipment to the Houthi militias loyal to Iran in Yemen.”

Despite the temporary closure of the air, sea and land ports, Saudi would protect “the entry and exit of relief and humanitarian personnel.”

“The Coalition... affirms the Kingdom’s right to respond to Iran at the appropriate time and in the appropriate form,” it added.

“The Coalition Command calls upon the Yemeni people and all civilians and humanitarian crews to avoid areas of combat operations, areas dominated by the Houthi armed militia, areas and ports exploited by this Iranian-controlled militia to smuggle weapons, and areas from which this militia launches its attacks against the Kingdom. “The Coalition also calls upon diplomatic missions to avoid areas that are not controlled by the Legitimate Government of Yemen.

The Coalition Command calls upon the international community and the United Nations Security Council including the sanctions committee established by the Council for the implementation of UNSC Resolution 2216, to take all necessary legal measures to hold Iran accountable for its violation of UN Security Council Resolutions, primarily resolution 2216, in addition to its violations of provisions and principles of international law that criminalize the aggression against other states,” the statement added.
