THE Miss Universe international beauty pageant brought together the contestants from Israel and Iraq, which are, when it comes to politics, officially enemies.

The pair posed together for selfies they posted to Instagram and Facebook as an unusual gesture of peace and coexistence, according to Times of Israel.

“Get to know, this is Miss Iraq and she’s amazing,” Miss Israel Adar Gandelsman captioned her post on Instagram.

While on Facebook, she wrote “Practicing bringing world peace!” Miss Israel Adar Gandelsman, 19 who is from Ashkelon, is currently in the middle of her military service.

Miss Iraq Sarah Idan also shared on her Instagram profile: “Peace and Love from Miss Iraq and Miss Israel,” getting over 2000 likes.

Idan had to explain that both contesters chatted about the hope for peace to prevail and that as ambassadors of peace, this should be the spirit. However, she apologized to those who considered the gesture against the Palestinian cause.

Times of Israel said that luckily for Baghdad-born Idan, 27, who now lives in the US, she has nothing to fear compared to other Arab contestants siting Miss Lebanon Sally Greige who was criticized in 2015 for posing with Miss Israel and faced calls to strip her of her title.
