United FC wins USG Boral Football Tournament

– In a spirited finals of the USG Boral Football Tournament 2017 organized by United Football Club as part of its 9th anniversary celebrations, host team UFC Khobar emerged victorious to seal the winner’s trophy in a nail biting tie breaker.

The scoring was Nizar Edathanattukara for UFC and Jagadish for the Khalidiah Team. Then UFC took lead with 4 goals over Khalidiah Team’s 2 in the shootout.

Former Illinois University, USA Team veteran player Ali Ibeid was the chief guest. He encouraged the players as well as the audience to participate in sports and congratulated them for their team spirit. Ali, in his short but powerful speech called upon all to look beyond victories and failures in competitions like this, and to make it a valuable opportunity to spread the spirit of cooperation, peace and happiness among people from different social and cultural backgrounds.

He also congratulated the USG Boral Company for taking the initiative to promote such events among the expatriate community.

Wael Zeaiter, operations manger of USG Boral, expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the tournament, and congratulated the players and appreciated the audience, the excellent blend of which made the event a grand success. Wael assured that the company would promote similar tournaments in the future.

Jagadish of Khalidiah was selected as the Best Player of the Series. Other players who received special honor were: Mubin (Goal Keeper – UFC), Fazil Chiriyappu (Defender – UFC), Nizar (Youth Icon – UFC), Abid (Striker – UFC), Chellappan (Mid-Fielder – Khalidiah). Dammam Soccer Team was selected for the Fairplay Trophy. Jagadish was again honored for the Best Goal in the Tournament.

The prizes were distributed by P.M. Najeeb, P.V. Abdul Jaleel, T.P. Shuhaib, Dr. Abdul Salam, Rafeeq Koottilangadi, Mustafa Thalasseri, Firoz Kozhikkode, Mohammed Najathi, Mustafa Paavayil, Najeeb Aranjikkal, Razal Choondakkaran, Jafar Kondotty, Nazar, Andona, Rony, Thanzeel Bavanland, P.T. Alawi, Ashraf Alath, Muhammad Nishad, Ashraf T. I, Shabeer Yanbu, Mani Pathirippala, Sameer Sam, Zakkeer Vallakkadavu and Riyaz Palari.

Jasheed Ali presented the Ray Ban Runner’s Up Trophy to the Khalidiah Team. The winning teams were given cash award sponsored by Al Karsaf Shipping and Logistics Company by Najim Basheer.

Sajad Cheruvadi won the first prize of the raffle draw and a Jet Airways air ticket was awarded to him by Mohammed Nishad, the reservations manager of Jet Airways Dammam.

The program was organized under the leadership of Raju Lukas, Ashraf Thalappuzha, Noushad Alanallur, Faizal Edathanattukara, Sharief Manoor, Rahim Alanallur and Mujeeb Kalathil.
