JEDDAH — The municipality destroyed 38 tons of food products unfit for human consumption during an inspection campaign at Sawarikh Souq in Jeddah.

The inspectors destroyed food items that passed their expiration date and others found to be unsuitable for human use.

The municipality inspectors also destroyed 10 tons of second-hand cloths displayed on sidewalks on shop fronts.

Ahmad Al-Zahrani, head of South Jeddah Municipality, pointed out that the Sawarikh Souq has more than 30 commercial centers that sell various products.

Al-Zahrani said the destroyed food products included baby food, biscuits and canned food. He said the municipality would intensify its inspection campaign in the area with a view of ensuring public health.

The municipality chief urged citizens and expatriate residents to call the hotline number 940 to inform about violations they come across in any of the city's commercial outlets.
