Saudi Gazette report

JEDDAH
— A university professor died after collapsing on the podium while giving a speech on Thursday.

Professor Nisreen Al-Banawi was speaking during a ceremony at the College of Business and Economics in King Abdulaziz University. The ceremony at a conference room on the third story of the college building was held to honor her.

After taking the podium to deliver her speech, Al-Banawi requested everyone to be quiet. She then passed out apparently due to acute bleeding in her brain.

Paramedics who were called in immediately carried her on a gurney to the ambulance. The professor was pronounced dead by the paramedics and a medical team who examined her after all attempts to resuscitate her failed.

The university extended its condolences to the family of Al-Banawi. It said the university administration had always been keen to provide medical assistance to all its students and staff.

A statement said the professor died a natural death and the university and its medical services did everything possible to save her.
