LOS ANGELES - Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is not planning a presidential run for 2020. However, he is already considering a push for the White House four years later.

“Realistically, as we go into 2018, when you look at my slate as we’re developing and shooting into 2019 and 2020, the slate goes deep into 2021, so it feels like the realistic consideration would be 2024," Johnson told Variety.

The former wrestler and current box office megastar has a long list of commitments prior to the next election, but he is already making plans for the one after. While he has tons of ground to cover before he prepares for his presidential run, he has a firm grasp on why he would want to get into politics.

“I care deeply about our country, and I care deeply about our people - especially now,” he said. “Decency matters and being a decent human being matters, and character matters, and leadership matters.

He continued, "I think this is just a product of my DNA, in that when there’s an issue, that’s the time we have to come together, work hard to understand each other and ultimately get to a better place,” Johnson explained.

Johnson has attended both the Republican and Democratic Conventions, but he is currently registered as an independent. He would not be the first actor to run for office or even win the presidency. Most notably, of course, Ronald Reagan had an extensive acting career before being elected the 40th president of the United States. - Agencies
