HAIL — A Civil Defense officer put his life at risk by giving his own oxygen cylinder to save a child who suffered smoke inhalation in a fire in Hail on Thursday.
Hail Red Crescent spokesman Sultan Ibrahim said Civil Defense officer Mishal Al-Enizi was part of a team of firefighters battling a blaze in a house in Hail’s western Sudyan district.
Al-Enizi found a child unconscious as a result of smoke inhalation, he immediately gave his own oxygen cylinder to save the life of the child who was rushed to a hospital. But in the process Al-Enizi himself suffered smoke inhalation. He is currently under intensive care.
Twitter users started a hashtag to praise Al-Enizi for his bravery and sacrifice.
The Red Crescent treated six victims on the spot without the need to transport them to a hospital, said Ibrahim.
Seven other victims suffered smoke inhalation. Four of them were neighbors, two of them were Civil Defense officers and one of them was an onlooker.
“The paramedics transported six victims to a private hospital and one to King Khalid Hospital. They were all in critical condition,” said Ibrahim.
