Honda CC and KLV Al-Khodari emerge champs

DAMMAM — Honda Cricket Club and Eastern Arabia KLV Al-Khodari emerged champions in the Premier and First Divisions, respectively, of the SKFM AlAskcon T20 Super Cup Cricket Tournament, organized by Eastern Province Cricket Association (EPCA) recently.

This tournament was sponsored by AlAskcon in memory of late Sikander Kamal Farooqui.

In the Premier Division final, Honda Cricket Club outplayed FMS Hamza Khan XI. Batting first, Honda posted 186-8 in 20 overs. Afaq Khan played an excellent innings of 65 off 47 balls and Kashif Abbas 57 off 41. They kept the scoreboard ticking and built a tremendous partnership. Imran Munir took 4 wickets and Yahya two.

In reply, FMS Hamza Khan XI lost wickets at regular intervals and was bowled out for 112 in 18.3 overs. Only Usman Khan managed to hold on to make 33 off 23. There were outstanding bowling spells by Kashif abbas (3-28), Imran Arif (2-13) and Zain Awan (2-21). Honda CC won by a huge margin of 74 runs and lifted the first trophy of the season.

In the First Division final, Eastern Arabia KLV Al-Khodari defeated Tamimi Cricket Club by 7 wickets. Tamimi batted first and was bowled out for 140 in 19.5 overs. Fine bowling spell by Zubair fetched him 3-25. Imran Polali kept a tight line and grabbed 2 wickets. Mohsin Shah scored 29 off 28 balls, Umer and Sherjeel hit 27 each for Tamimi.

Surjit and Imran were off to an aggressive start and reached the target in 12.1 overs. Surjit Lally belted 68 off 24 balls and Imran smashed 30 off 24 balls. Eastern Arabia KLV Al-Khodari lifted the First Division Trophy in style.

Former India cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin graced the finals and awarded the prizes. He encouraged the youngsters and appreciated the efforts of EPCA to keep high level of cricket in the middle of the desert. — SG
