Fourth Red Sea Ophthalmology Conference starts in Jeddah

ON behalf of Makkah Emir Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Prince Mishal Bin Majed, governor of Jeddah, inaugurated on Wednesday evening the 4th Red Sea Conference and Exhibition for Ophthalmology 2018 with participation of Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Ahmad, chairman of the Saudi Ophthalmology Society (SOS), and over 3,000 ophthalmologists.

Prince Abdulaziz in his message said: “It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 4th International Red Sea Ophthalmology Symposium in Jeddah. This educational event is being organized by Saudi Ophthalmological Society (SOS) in collaboration with the Regional Hospitals and Universities.

"Since the establishment of SOS Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and related professionals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have greatly benefited. Under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, and Honorary President of the SOS Prince Ahmed Bin Abdulaziz, the Society continues to strive to achieve its future goals.

"We continue to unite our efforts and goals to provide the strongest and most comprehensive symposium in the western region. The symposium will focus on the New updates in: cornea diseases, retina, cataract surgeries, pediatrics, refractive surgeries, ophthalmic courses for anesthesiologists, family & general physicians, courses for optometrist, courses for ophthalmic nurses, technicians & opticians, also workshops sessions, wet labs, satellite symposia sessions & much more in addition to the above. We are grateful to our international and local speakers for sharing their clinical and research experiences with us.

This this conference has attracted specialists from around the world as well as local experts and will talk and introduce the latest of the best practices. The SOS has organized some 31 international conferences and held 60 scientific seminars, 170 awareness seminars and 23 booklets about common eye diseases. In addition the SOS Journal said “The prince is a great source and help for research and studies in this field.”

The conference is authorized by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialization (SCHS), and has 120 scientific sessions, 50 courses, 600 papers with participation of 200 specialists. The event highlights the different medical solutions for children eye diseases, cornea, refraction, cataract, implanting lenses, glaucoma and retina.

The conference also expects to sign a number of agreements with European Ophthalmology schools, American Ophthalmology Academy and other international societies.

Saeed Al-Gamdi, the head of the training program at the western region, said the conference is a platform to exchange expertise and knowledge among specialists. He called on all to benefit from the chance offered to meet local and international experts.

The event held at the Jeddah Hilton is expected to end on Saturday and is organized in collaboration with National Guard in Jeddah, King Abdul Aziz University, Jeddah Eye Hospital and King Faisal Specialist Hospital.
