JEDDAH — Bowler of the Year finals and league winner Joel Nidoy carried over his sublime form toward the end of last year into 2018 when he won the Bowler of the Month title for January at the start of the OFBC monthly series at the Iceland Bowling Center.

Drawing first blood on the women’s division was Farida Guzman, with Joel’s wife, Malou, completing a podium finish for the Nidoys by taking the fourth position.

Joel seemed to have no trouble despite being reclassified as Class O bowler with a zero handicap, stringing five games with handicap series of 925 to sustain his run late last year where he won the Bowler of the Week, December Bowler of the Month, Friday League Season 7 title with RTJ Baguio Transient House, which he captained, and Bowler of the Year finals.

Joel carded games of 169, 204, 201, 170 and 181 to win by nine pins from Class B Rico Bulalayao who returned 198, 169, 172, 159 and 178.

Ryan Latigo was second runner-up behind champion Nidoy and first runner-up Bulalayao on 911 with Ed Cordova third runner-up to round out the January winners on 907.

De Guzman overcame a so-so start but then rode her rich 24 per game handicap to an easy victory on the distaff side, totaling 867 in five games on lines of 138, 162, 147, 151 and 149.

Carmen Duma was 23 pins behind in second place with a five-game series of 844 (92, 150, 165, 128, 189) while Johara Palot and Malou completed the top four winners.

Palot carded 821 on games of 122, 153, 162, 143 and 121 and Malou, who carried the lowest handicap among the women at 8, had 793 (171, 151, 150, 138 and 143).

The first set of winners in the Overseas Filipino Bowling Club monthly series received cash prizes during the awards ceremony.
