Jeddah power station fire disrupts electricity some areas

JEDDAH — A fire that broke out at the electricity power transmission station in north Jeddah on Monday resulted in power outage in some parts of the city.

Col. Saeed Al-Sarhan, spokesman of Civil Defense in Makkah region, said that the no one was hurt in the accident.

The civil defense teams rushed to the scene and put out the fire after receiving information at around 7:36 a.m.

Al-Sarhan said the fire at the transmission station caused power disruption in some districts in the northern and western parts of the city, including Al-Shatie, Al-Nahdah, Al-Naeem, Muhammadiyah, Al-Nuzha, Al-Marwah, Al-Haramain Road, and south Obhur.

It also caused malfunction of elevators in some of these districts. Civil Defense teams rushed to those areas to carry out rescue operation.

The Civil Defense authorities launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire.

The Saudi Electricity Co., meanwhile, apologized to customers in Jeddah for the disruption of the electricity service on Monday morning due to some technical failure of the electric network.

The service was restored within 20 minutes.
