JEDDAH — Some 500 students in 21 government and private universities in Saudi Arabia will participate in a Qur'an competition to be organized by the University of Jeddah.

The competition, to be held with the support of Jeddah Governor Prince Mishal Bin Majed from Feb. 25 to March 1, will have four categories: all 30 parts of the Qur'an, 20 parts, 10 parts and 5 parts.

Sixteen winners from all categories will receive prizes ranging from SR30,000 and SR10,000. The total prize money will be SR540,000. Salah Baothman, secretary-general of the competition, said the contest was organized to support and celebrate Qur'an students, as well as to encourage others to join in and discover new talent in the field of Qur'an memorization.

He added that the executive committee for Jeddah University had finalized all preparations for holding the competition.
