February 12, 2018

JEDDAH — Tiruchi Siva, member of Parliament (India) and Dravida Munnetra Kazagham (DMK) Party propaganda secretary, lauded the Tamilians staying and working in foreign lands for their commitment to the Tamil people and language even while residing outside India.

He was speaking here at a recent event held by the international wing of DMK party. He held discussions with top party friends. In his presidential address, he had a special word of praise for Islam, a religion of tolerance that shows specific direction for humankind.

He was encouraged by the fact that Tamil people from all over the world have made it a point to meet the DMK leadership and share their visions and issues in the place of their residence.

“Whenever, Tamilians and party affiliates staying outside India come and meet the DMK leadership, they (leadership) not only welcomes them but listen to their issues, in the hope they can be of assistance,” Siva said.

He added that he was extremely happy that the Tamil people, residing in foreign lands, have shown more commitment in propagating the Tamil language and culture ... even more than the people in Tamil Nadu.

After discussions with the Tamil Diaspora here, Siva pledged that he would definitely meet the Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj soon after his return to New Delhi and highlight their issues.

“I’ll definitely meet the Minister of State for External Affairs V. K. Singh and discuss with him the state of Tamilians in foreign countries and how we can assist them,” he added.

“One of the request from the Tamilians is a direct air service from Riyadh to Tiruchi, and I’ll surely take up this plea... and the other to request the ministry to direct the missions to assist the Diaspora. In this I ask DMK members and friends to assist the workers from Tamil Nadu in their times of need,” Siva said.

Remembering Anna (founder of DMK and the late former chief minister C. M. Annadurai), Siva said, “The person who fought for Tamilians and Tamil language is still living in our hearts for his service to Tamil langue and Tamil Nadu while showing us the direction to serve people by forming DMK, whose legacy is continued by M. Karunanidhi.”

“My appreciation to you NRIs for your efforts in keeping the language and the traditions of the Tamils flying high,” Siva said while extolling the virtues of the party in serving the people of Tamil Nadu.

“I am happy to note that people have come from Yanbu, Madinah and Makkah for the event, and you people, as Tamilians, have not only served India but also the country you are residing in with dynamism,” he said.

The function was very well organized by DMK international members Vellayappan, Premnath, Ahmed Mohideen, Kovai Ganesh, Syed Meeran, Mahotum Jegan and Rajesh. The function was headed by Ahmed Mohideen and Vellayappan delivered the vote of thanks. — SG
