— The Pakistan Welfare Society (PWS) is an exemplary social and welfare society of the Pakistani expatriate ladies community, said Sonia Shehryar, wife of Pakistan Consul General Shehryar Akbar Khan, at the 10th Annual Women Health Seminar arranged by PWS ladies wing (PWS-LW) Jeddah chapter at the premises of Consulate General.

Sonia appreciated the PWS’s ladies wing’s free social, medical and educational services to the needy and deserving people of the Pakistani community and others. She assured her full support to the group’s activities. She also congratulated PWS ladies members for holding the seminar and praised the choice of topics and lectures by speakers. She recommended some physical exercises that the ladies can practice routinely. The seminar began with recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an with translation by Hiba Nawaz. Inaya Saleem presented the welcome bouquet.

Dr. Rabia Khatoon, in-charge ladies wing, conducted the seminar and briefed the guests on PWS’s welfare and social activities, including the fortnightly free medical camp at the Pakistan Consulate. She thanked Chief Guest Sonia Shehryar and Guest of Honor Mrs. Farhat Naeem, vice principal of Pakistan International School Azizia for sparing time to attend the seminar.

Dr. Rabia said, a panel of specialist ladies doctors’ lecture on health issues of women was the feature of the seminar. Dr Tahira Waqar’s lecture about urinary tract infection was well received. She said urinary tract infection is very common in females and she talked on ways females can prevent it. She added that females should not take it lightly, for if it is not treated properly frequent infections can even lead to kidneys damage.

Dr. Sana Yawar spoke on the frequent problem of hair fall. She revealed the common causes of hair fall such as iron deficiency, anemia, thyroid problems and hormonal issues as the common cause, but she also mentioned that too much use of hair dyes could also damage the hair.

Dr. Kausar Ayesha talking about pregnancy-related complications, while also explaining different methods for family planning. Dr. Aziza Hassan spoke on anemia, which is the root cause for a person to get tired, irritable, lack focus, dizziness and broken nails. She also mentioned the types of anemia, including iron deficient and vitamin B 12 deficient and the treatment — medicines and healthy diet such as meat, eggs, vegetable, dried fruits, cereals and fresh fruits etc.

Dr. Farah Nawaz spoke about types of diabetes such as type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes which happens during pregnancy. She spoke about current day treatment, including diet, physical activity, oral medicines and insulin while calling on patients to actively participate in the control of diabetes.

Dr. Saba Tazeen conducted quiz session regarding the lectures. Dr. Rabia thanked guests for attending. She gave a special thanks to PWS volunteers Norina Ishaq, Aniqa Ishaq, Dua’a Ahmad and Zunairah Abid for their dedicated work in organizing the event, where volunteers provided a free check-up of blood pressure, sugar, height and weight.
