Who will return my SR200?

THERE is a popular Arabic saying that roughly translates to “When a trader faces financial hardship, he goes through his record books to find a solution.” It is a proverb that suggests by going back to one’s roots, a solution can be found during time of financial hardship.

This saying represents what some writers do when they run out of new ideas to write about; they go back to an old archive which is full of many topics to discuss. There are also countless topics that can be found online which I believe are of interest to my readers and I feature them in my columns when I run out of ideas.

I recently read a touching story about a woman who lost SR200. The woman posted a flyer in which she asked whoever finds the money to kindly return it to her. She also provided her address and added that the SR200 was all she had to buy food for her child. Someone read her flyer and decided to help the woman. He went to her apartment pretending to have found the money and gave her the SR200.

Upon receiving it, the woman cried out. “You are the 12th person to hand me money and say that you found it. I beg you to remove that flyer as I did not write it since I am illiterate.”

The moral of the story is that doing good deeds is not difficult. No matter how small the gesture, even a smile is considered a good deed and can make someone’s day.
