RIYADH
— Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University released a statement on Monday clarifying that the woman who was run over by a car in front of the campus on Sunday was not a student of the university.

The university's spokesman Ahmad Al-Rukban said: “The woman is not one of our students. She is 54 years old and was crossing the street on her way to a shopping center nearby. The paramedics who transported her to hospital told us that she was one of our students. The faculty members who visited the victim in hospital learned that she is not a student.”

Al-Rukban said the university had asked the municipality to build a pedestrian bridge in the area, but it did not respond to the request.

“The municipality has been unresponsive to our request so far. The least they could do is to build speed breakers on the road to slow down the drivers. The street in front of the campus is not the responsibility of the university. I request the general public and the parents of the students not to point fingers at the university for incidents happening outside the campus,” said Al-Rukban.
