Al-Awwad attends MiSK institute event in Washington

WASHINGTON — Minister of Culture and Information Awwad Al-Awwad visited the event organized by the MiSK Art Institute at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington on Wednesday evening.

The cultural event, titled ‘the Contemporary Art and Culture of Saudi Arabia’ was held on the sidelines of the official visit of Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, to the United States.

The event featured performance by 33 male and female artists from all regions of the Kingdom as well as a workshop, artistic performances from MiSK Foundation and a variety of performances by Saudi musicians. Al-Awwad listened to a briefing about the event from the renowned Saudi artist and President of the institute Ahmed Mater.

Mater said that the institute chose to hold the “Color and Light” exhibition in Washington to showcase the cultural diversity of Saudi Arabia.

The institute also organized on Thursday a symposium titled “Saudi Arabia: A change of the landscape” which highlighted the features of change in the Kingdom through the lenses of Saudi photographers, and the presentation of social change in light and art.

The institute was created to encourage grass roots artistic production in Saudi Arabia as well as to boost international cultural diplomacy and exchange.
