NEW YORK — Miguel Cabrera homered off a rusty Jake Arrieta to help the Detroit Tigers post a 6-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday in Clearwater, Fla.

The right-handed Arrieta was making his spring debut after recently signing a three-year, $75 million deal with the Phillies. He allowed two runs and three hits and struck out two in two innings during a 31-pitch stint.

"I had a ton of nervous energy," Arrieta told reporters afterward. "Very anxious to get out there. I was in here at 8 o'clock, and I couldn't stop moving around. That's just how I am by nature. But now that it's over, I can take a deep breath and remember what it feels like to be in a game situation, with umpires, crowd, and it felt great."

Cabrera lined an opposite-field homer off Arrieta in the first inning and Jose Iglesias recorded a run-scoring double in the second. Adam Rosales homered for Philadelphia.
