JAZAN — A school bus caught fire on Sunday leading to evacuation of all students on board.

Sibya Education Affairs Director Asiri Al-Ahwas said the school bus was transporting Al-Aidabi Boys Primary School after the end of a school day.

“The cause of the fire was an electric error. The students informed the driver of the raging fire and he stopped the bus and evacuated all students. The driver called the Civil Defense and ensured that all students were safe,” said Al-Ahwas.

He added the Civil Defense extinguished the fire and there were no injuries recorded.

“The school communicated with the transportation company and they sent another bus immediately to ensure that all students are transported to their homes safely. The school vice principal also ensured that all students were safe,” said Al-Ahwas.

He added all students came to school on Monday morning and things proceeded as usual.

“The school demanded a report from the transportation company to find out what really happened and how such an incident can be prevented in the future,” said Al-Ahwas.

Jazan Civil Defense spokesman Capt. Yahya Al-Qahtani said on coming to know of the incident, the Civil Defense rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire.

Some parents said that the Chinese-made buses do not bear the heat of Saudi climate. They urged the school and the Education Affairs Directorate to make sure that the provided buses are well maintained.
