RIYADH — Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Al-Faisal, president of Saudi Arabian Motor Federation, honored the successful participation of the Mechanical Engineering Faculty students of King Saud University in Riyadh in the international "Eco Marathon" for engineering creativity which was held recently in Singapore.
The students were also nominated for the title of “Best Scientific Initiative” special award of PR Arabia Auto Award.
Shell Saudi Arabia was also recognized for supporting this unique scientific initiative, at the closing ceremony of the 6th edition PR Arabia Auto Award which was held last week in Jeddah.
Prince Khalid expressed his happiness with this scientific achievement by Saudi students, and listened to a detailed explanation on the project, which was conducted under the slogan “Make the Future”, where they achieved great success in this global event. Prince Khalid also listened to Andrew Crowe, CEO of Shell Saudi Arabia, briefing the goals of Shell initiative for supporting scientific programs and scientific excellence of Saudi students in the field of creative ideas that help reduce energy consumption and find appropriate alternatives.
Crowe expressed happiness with this achievement of King Saud University students, and was pleased with “Shell Saudi Arabia” participation in this great achievement through supporting the students in charge of the project.
For four consecutive years, students from Mechanical Engineering Faculty of King Saud University participated in this global event and offered a state-of-an art example in engineering innovation by producing two highly fuel efficient vehicles, and participating in Shell Eco Marathon” in Singapore.
The Saudi team posted the best timing for the 277 km race by using only one liter of fuel, which is the best for Middle East and North Africa, and first place regionally and 13 place globally. — SG
