Dubai Chamber expands CSR Label framework

April 17, 2018

DUBAI — The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has introduced an enhanced version of the Dubai Chamber CSR Label and an Advanced Category of the CSR Label in response to growing interest among companies in Dubai that are keen to continuously improve their CSR strategies and practices.

The framework for the enhanced CSR Label was unveiled during a launch event held at the Chamber’s premises on Tuesday (April 17). The event was attended by recipients of the CSR Label and prospective applicants who learned about the updated framework, as well as its features and tools.

Features of the improved CSR Label include a streamlined and standardized scoring system, new assessment parameters for practices and policies, and an online application and evaluation system.

The Advanced Category of the CSR Label will place a strong emphasis on measuring and managing CSR impact performance, ensuring that CSR objectives are aligned with business strategies, and encouraging stakeholder involvement in developing, and implementing CSR strategies. In addition, the Advanced Label will serve as a strategic management tool designed to help companies to make more informed decisions.

Hisham Abdullah Al Shirawi, 2nd Vice Chairman of Dubai Chamber, explained that the enhanced CSR Label framework will aim to measure CSR performance and evaluate the impact of companies’ CSR activities, while it will also use effective steering and governance systems and engage with various stakeholders throughout their CSR journey.

“I am confident that these improvements will complement Dubai Chamber’s CSR and Sustainability strategy, attract the participation of more companies and raise CSR awareness and standards within the business community,” said Al Shirawi, who also encouraged companies in Dubai to apply for the CSR Label and take advantage of the benefits provided by the new framework.

Since its launch in 2011, the Dubai Chamber CSR Label has served as a diagnostic framework and management tool for the participating companies to gauge their approach to CSR and sustainability best practices, and asses their organizations’ impact on the environment and the local community.

The CSR Label is open to all organizations, private or public, regardless of their size, sector, or operations, and can make a major difference to a company’s reputation, efficiency and productivity. The success of participating companies depends on how CSR objectives are set and communicated to all of their stakeholders. — SG
