Strowman predicts victory in Saudi Greatest Royal Rumble

April 19, 2018

“It’s lightning in a bottle, it’s like trying to ride a tornado. There is simply nothing like it, there is nothing to compare it to,” said Braun Strowman — the Monster Among Men to WWE fans — ahead of the upcoming Greatest Royal Rumble.

Just days ago, millions watched the athlete, who towers over two meters tall, storm to victory in Wrestlemania’s Raw tag team title with an unusual tag partner, a 10-year-old boy from the crowd called Nicholas. The WWE superstar said Saudi fans shouldn’t rule out being tagged into the ring.

“That’s what WWE does, it brings dreams to reality with all the things we do our fans around the world. And you never know I might have to reach out for someone in Saudi Arabia.”

The Greatest Royal Rumble marks the start of a 10-year partnership between WWE and the General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia with a series of championships planned at the rumble. The WWE announced that two more championship matches including the Raw Tag Team championship match: Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt versus Sheamus and Cesaro, and the United States Championship match: Jeff Hardy versus Jinder Mahal with Sunil Singh.

For Braun the signature event, featuring 50 WWE stars battling it out at the King Abdullah Stadium, will be a chance to continue a winning streak in the Gulf, having previoulsy won in Abu Dhabi.

“The fans were unbelievable, we were excited to be in the Gulf, the beautiful architecture and the culture of the people, it was something I’d never experienced before and it was pretty awesome and I’m looking forward to more of that in Saudi Arabia.

“I love that they are bringing sport and entertainment to the people which is really exciting. I’ve never been in my life so I’m looking forward to seeing it. We’ve got a 50-man Royal Rumble, you never know who’s going to show up so it’s going to be thrilling.”

Tickets are available online at WWE.SA, and are also from retail locations including the General Sports Authority offices in Riyadh, Jeddah and Damman, Red Sea Mall, Mall of Arabia, Alsalam Mall, and a special WWE/GSA outdoor booth at Jeddah Corniche. Tickets will also be on-sale at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium beginning Wednesday, April 25.

For Braun, his commitment to becoming champion of the Greatest Royal Rumble is only matched by his determination to make sure the inaugural GRR tournament is one Saudi Arabia will remember and flock back to next year.

“You only get one chance to make a first impression. You never know if someone is on the fence about being a WWE fan so when they come to a show I do everything in my being to make sure they enjoy every second of what they are watching and participating in. They’ll be on your feet, they’ll be screaming, their voice will go, and most importantly they’ll have a great time at the Greatest Royal Rumble.

“We are going to come out and do what we do best and put on one heck of a show. It’s going to be rocking and rolling and make sure that everyone who was at the first show tells all their friends how amazing it was so the crowd gets bigger and bigger every year.”

The mega-event will welcome thousands of families and despite sometimes being cast as a villain, Braun has increasingly become a favorite for children across the WWE universe. “WWE has something for everything,” said the star. “We have athletes of all shapes and sizes from all over the earth, we’ve done a very good job over bring a diverse athletic crew. So, for our fans everyone has someone they can cheer for. It’s very family oriented, that’s the name of the game, it’s entertainment. It’s about putting smiles on people’s faces and taking them out of reality for a second, let them get caught up in our world.”

Focussing on the action inside the ring, the WWE superstar had one message for his fans, and his competition. “Get ready to watch The Monster Among Men walk into a ring with 49 other men and do what he does best, cause destruction and walk out the Greatest Royal Rumble winner.” — SG
