DUBAI — Makarem Hotels, the award-winning Saudi hotel brand owned by Dur Hospitality partook at the 25th edition of ATM held in Dubai. During its participation, Makarem Hotels announced its strategic expansion plan to increase its portfolio in the Holy Cities of Madinah and Makkah by growing the number of rooms operated by Makarem to more than 5,000 rooms by 2023.

On this occasion, Hassan Ahdab, President of Hotel Operations at Dur Hospitality, said the participation of Makarem Hotels in this international exhibition comes in line with its expansion strategy in the holy cities, and the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to increase the number of pilgrims from 8 million to 30 million Umrah visitors annually.

He further revealed the company's development, expansion and renovation works for its hotels in the Holy Cities. Some of its most notable projects include the expansion of Makarem Ajyad Makkah hotel through the development of a new connected tower to add new rooms with a better view of the Haram, which is expected to be finalized during 2020.

Ahdab continued “through its participation in this event, Makarem Hotels aims to highlight its local expertise as a leading Saudi hotel brand, and to keep abreast of recent economic developments in the Kingdom, including, the launch of tourist visas and the growth of the entertainment and tourism sectors.” He further expressed his pride in the company's position in the hospitality sector, noting that Makarem Hotels won the Saudi Arabia's Leading Hotel Group award at World Travel Awards for the second year in a row.

It is worth mentioning that the Saudi travel and tourism sector grew four times faster than the wider economy in 2017, according to a report released by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). The total contribution of travel and tourism to GDP was SR240.9 billion ($64.2 billion), or 9.4 percent of GDP in 2017.
